The Project Development Objective is to support the GoU territorial development program for medium-sized cities through integrated strategic investments in three cities to improve the living conditions of the residents while contributing to local development. Such investments would be designed to address the specific needs of each project city, combining as necessary: (i) integrated urban services improvement, to address the basic infrastructure and service gap, thereby enhancing the functional aspects of the city; (ii) urban regeneration of selected areas of the city to improve livability and (iii) support to local economic development for job creation. Investments would be complemented by assistance to enhance efficiency of urban planning and capacity building of local and central government agencies.
The Consultant assisted the Government of Uzbekistan in the finalization of the Environmental and Social Management Framework and Resettlement Policy Framework for the MSCIUDP to ensure it meet World Bank requirements, it is acceptable to the Implementation Agency (SIC), it is disclosed and consulted in the three selected cities with all interested parties, and ready for wider disclosure on World Bank and GoU websites.
