Project description:

Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources (MAWR) of Uzbekistan and Farmers Association (FA) is implementing the Research Project on Measures Against Farmland Damage from Salinization (the Project) in Uzbekistan. The objective of the Project is to develop methods for measures on farmland damage from salinization in order to keep and improve agricultural productivity in irrigated farmland of Uzbekistan

A study to review existing methodologies/technologies related to countermeasures against salinization in Uzbekistan was contracted to NBT, as part of the Project. This study was primarily a desk study however, it included proactive and imaginative use of various sources of information including relevant government department, project reports, review available literature and grey reports. The review revealed the existing technologies/methodologies related to countermeasures against farmland salinization. Attention was drawn to traditional and non-conventional measures to minimize, mitigate and remediate salinization
